I had to take a bit of a break due to a pileup of work and the arrival of Mom (and, later, Dad) for the Thanksgiving Holidays.
Thanksgiving dinner for my family was at our house this year and we had a lovely dinner with Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potato casserole (yes, the one with marshmallows), roasted brussels sprouts with bacon and apples, jello salad, home-baked bread, and pumpkin pie. We had lots of candles lit, ate buffet style, and sat around in the living room. Greg also brought a hunk of the wild sow he and his buddy killed in the swamps of Oglethorpe County, GA. It was surprisingly good! Dad didn't arrive from Louisiana until 3am, but we had saved him some good food.
The evaluation process preparatory to the creation of an IEP for Robyn finally got going in the weeks before Thanksgiving. The most notable development was the results of the intelligence testing, which revealed Robyn's IQ to be in the high upper ranges -- she was able to answer questions, write, and perform problem-solving tasks at the college level. I knew she was a bright child, but I did not realize that she was quite so gifted. Now I feel guilty that I haven't done as much to address her abilities as I've done to address her challenges. Oh well, my philosophy had always been that holding her back cognitively would allow her to catch up socially. That's no longer a practicable solution. After an examination by the OT and the speech therapist, we'll all get together and have us a meeting.
Mom, Dad, and Thady have left for Louisiana, Robyn is resting, Dean is at work, and the cats are relieved to have the house emptied of the canine sort. I have a headache now and must go back to work this evening at 6pm, an hour that fast approaches. More later, then.
I'm so disappointed I didn't take pictures of the festivities.
